Description
The hamlet Le Chiuse stands on the road that rose from Cascia to Ocosce and then led towards Monteleone di Spoleto. The route enables the local farmhouses with their cowsheds on the ground floor and the family dwelling above where the shepherds and farmers lived to be fully appreciated in the Valnerina.
Near Casale where the canonical church of San Pietro stood, a local limestone boundary stone is preserved that came originally from the church of San Pietro, no longer standing today, and that has a partially erased inscription dedicated to Mars.
The area has numerous archaeological finds dating back to the Italic and Roman period. Beneath the hamlet lies the plain, Piano di Ocosce in the district of Concone and tall poplars and cypresses sway over the lake giving an impressive view.
